Woodford County investigates phone scam

Woodford County Sheriff’s Police are warning the public of a sophisticated phone scam taking place in the area.

Police say the caller claims to be a Sergeant with the Sheriff’s office and the phone number appears to be somewhat local with an 815 area code.

“The fictitious Sergeant advises the victim a loved one of theirs is in custody and with a payment the loved one can be released and placed on a GPS monitoring device,” said a news release from the police. “Our office would never call and ask for money via the phone for any reason.”
